This Self Care Week, I have been sharing some insights into self care when you have a long term condition from some of my friends. So, I guess today it’s my turn…
My attitude to self care is pretty much summed up in one of my early blogs – one of the important life lessons I have learned from Parkinson’s – I always have a choice. It may not always be an easy choice, but I do always have a choice. I didn’t choose to have Parkinson’s, but I can choose how I live with it. For me, that means that I made two important choices…
One, I am going to do everything I can to look after myself and be as healthy as I can, both physically and mentally – I don’t need any other health issues on top of Parkinson’s. Two, I am going to do everything I can to make myself more resilient so that I will be able to cope with whatever challenges (health or otherwise) that may come my way.
All the other choices I make on a daily basis need to support these two fundamental choices.

As Self Care Week 2021 draws to a close, tomorrow’s final blog of this series will round up the week. I will also be sharing some practical tips for self care when you have a long term condition. Watch this space…
